龍安寺 :Ryoanji

It is believed that the temple was founded in 1450 or so. The original one was destroyed in 1797, and the present one was rebuilt after the fire though; its gardens have remained intact. The temple is noted for its 500 years old rock garden, which contains no trees and no plants. Ryoanji is Buddhist temple of Myoshinji sect. The temple was added to The UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. It is best known for its dry landscape garden with no trees or shrubs.
